Twinkledigitz
aka Will Hindmarsh - whats it all about?
This is an hour long talk with Twinkledigitz about his debut solo album.
Its available now via Bandcamp but Will Hindmarsh - the man behind the master (?) is yet to land on a place and a date to launch the object and the music into the world in an official manner.
There are other musicians and songwriters in Australia but there are few others as unique as Will. Full of creativity and ideas and a nice, positive force in the world as well. It takes so much capital for a solitary artist to bring music into the world, especially now that people demand it be presented to them on slabs of vinyl. It takes financial, emotional and whatever sort of capital comes from a persons finite inner banks of energy or vitality. This has taken Will a couple of years. I hope his album and music finds its way to people and that they take it into their lives. Its great!
Twinkledigitz aka Will Hindmarsh, once led his band of merry pranksters Go Go Sapien. A madly costumed (mostly by Will) troupe. Highly conceptual yet sophisticated and cartoonish all the while. Very musical. They could really rock it but the arrangements took sudden, mad turns. The lyrics were like no others. The execution was highly risky but flawless. People who saw them, loved them! Will and his partner Emily have guested on many Dave Graney and Clare Moore tracks over the last decade. Will also occasionally played with Clare Moore on her solo ventures as well as the Dames. Emily, Will, Clare and Jane Dust also perform as The Routines. Emily and Will also occasionally perform with Damian Cowells Disco Machine. Will and Dave Graney have also been "working" on their "hip hop/electro prophets" act as Wam and Daz for more than a decade. Time flies...
Twinkeldigitz is Wills first solo outing. All electronic, totally lyrical and conceptual FIRE! Half of this talk was aired on Dave Graneys BLB program on RRR in Melbourne and the rest was continued off air. They spoke of many things. Tasmania, Melbourne, Twinkledigitz' school days , Go Go Sapien, electronics, technology, AI, humour (is it bad for a musician?) and snacks.
The album is available on vinyl via Bandcamp.
Go Go Sapiens epic blues, I HATE THE WIND
Tasmania , where Twinkledigitz and his compadres in Go Go Sapien hail from , was of course once a prisoners island known as Van Deimens Land, where Britain sent its excess lower classes after criminalizing them all. They experimented on new types of punishment and gaols in many Australian prisons, including a new type of building called a Panopticon.
Go Go Sapiens sophisticated musicality in evidence on the Imaginary Man. A great swinging beat.
A glimpse of the Go Gos in full live costumed flight. Gear mostly designed and made by Will Hindmarsh. RIP Kal on bass.
In the beginning there were The Great Apes. Way back in 2009.
Hang on! Its Wam and Daz!
Will and Emily added their magic vocal blend to many of our recent tunes, such as I Said No To Myself in 2024.
And don’t forget THE ROUTINES! More action from them coming soon.
But what about The Rockin’ Pelmets?
One last Go Go Sapien song that is mentioned in the interview. Victorian Spiders. I never thought that they were any different!
