Terrible, earnest Liberal Americana shit - Pavement and the fucking Mats or whatever their dickhead fans call them. Alcoholic sitcom music. Pavement became shitter and smugger and duller as they became better musos.

I was in a band that drank too much. Was much betterwhen we were sober. I completely disagree with you in regard to the Replacements. Paul Westerberg has a great rock voice and works within a tight format, and makes it new again every time.

I was going to say I have a few of the Mat's albums on digital, I have given them a fair shot! They just err too much of the side of schmaltz-caution for my liking! And both bands make music that fits into the format of sitcoms about alcoholic Americans, shit like 'cheers'. I have similar feelings about Joni Mitchell music. Even when she's weird it's straight and comfortable! The only problem I have is that alot of these acts I hate their records and anti-cult fans, but then I see a video of them in concert, and I kind of like them, like Wilco, for instance~!

Speaking as you were of overly enthusiastic percussionists, this heartfelt rave made me laugh out loud: https://www.facebook.com/marbinmusic/videos/1249609026858468

Is that the same Peter Lillie that did the 'Samurai Star' song? Can remember hearing it on RRR in the early 80s. And now I see from Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDn4ojW3WLo) that half the Birthday Party played on it. The things you learn. Have to look for that book.
